A spirit this unusual deserves more than the usual bottle and label. So we lovingly take each bottle, hand label it, dip it in wax, number it, encircle it with a metal band, then place it in a straw-filled wooden box reminiscent of days past. Finally, with a nod to modern merchandising, we substitute a clear Plexiglas sliding panel for wood, so that all this handwork can be viewed at retail and at home. At the San Francisco Spirits Competition held recently, Old Rum was honored with a Double Gold Medal.
